My name is Rick Ramos. Before I built Apex, I spent years inside the healthcare industry watching smart people get a lesser version of care — and just accepting it.
I was part of the founding team at HealthJoy, a healthcare navigation platform that scaled to serve over one million employees. I saw firsthand what happens when people are actually guided through the system — and I also saw everything the system refuses to do. The gatekeeping. The month-long waits. That last one happened to me personally. My own PCP wouldn’t order ApoB because of cost. A doctor — dismissing a biomarker that cardiologists consider essential — because of an insurance calculation. That was the moment I stopped being surprised and started getting frustrated.
